Text Box: Our afterschool program is coordinated and administered by Geneva Taylor. Ms Taylor is a graduate of Central Washington University in Ellensburg. Although a native of Seattle, she has been educated in the East and Midwest Text Box: It began slowly with 3 students and a major snow and ice storm, but this week the After-school program is looking at an enrollment of 12. The partnership between Union Gospel Mission and Marcus Whitman takes place in our classrooms from 3 to 6 on Monday through Thursday.

After walking over from
Text Box: as well.
She is a singer/songwriter with an ambition to own her own music publishing company and to manage a youth ministry program.
As a youngster Geneva attended programs in Seattle sponsored by Union Gospel Mission. “They made a big difference for me,” said Taylor. It was a very positive influence in my life.”
We hope our program can have a similar effect on our students.

Text Box: How Can I Help?
You can be a positive presence in a child’s life by:
Serving snacks
Volunteering once a week to help with homework or read with the children
Sharing a special skill like woodworking, handcrafts on a short term basis
ATTENDING the Family pot lucks on first Fridays!
Text Box: How do the students feel about the program?
“Having their homework done before they get home is a good thing,” says coordinator Geneva Taylor. It gives them a sense of accomplishment and frees their evenings for family and fun.
Text Box: Parkside, the students have a snack and some time to enjoy their own interests. They can read or play games or build things. Homework time and tutoring begins at 4 and lasts about an hour an a half. This is the time when volunteers are needed most. Ideally each student would have a volunteer to assist with homework or read with them.
