Caudillo's Corner - September 2007

Change. Most of us don't like change. At the very least, we resist it. Because it threatens the familiar, we are reluctant to embrace it. Yet the author of Ecclesiastes waxes eloquently about change and the "seasons" of our lives.

"For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven. A time to be born, a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. ...A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance...." Ecclesiastes 3:1-4

Personally, I would like to put the summer on rewind and start it over. But there is no denying the crispness in the evening air and the tips of leaves on some trees are already starting to sport fall color. There is no turning back!

Change. This year we pack up our younger son and send him off to college, emptying our "nest". A too young friend dies after years long illness. The next week her daughter and son-in-law receive confirmation that they are expecting their first baby in the spring. A relative slips further into dementia, not remembering her daughter's name. A child is welcomed into a loving foster home, Change. Some

Whether positive or negative, change is beyond our control

changes are positive and welcomed, while some are negative and resisted; yet most are beyond our control. How does one make sense of the "seasons" of our lives?

There is no denying that each day we live, brings us closer to the day this life will end. Time marches on. We age, and change - whether we want to or not! Some changes are harder to accept than others. The good news? We are not alone - we are in this together!

More good news? There is one constant, a still point in an ever-changing world:

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."  Hebrews 13:8

What an incredible blessing to know that the One in whom we put our trust is ever faithful and unchanging! Christ will always be there for us, no matter the circumstances of our live and the changes that may be taking place. God's love for us is another constant we can count on. "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness!"  Lamentations 3:22-23

While we do not know what the future holds, we know the One who holds the future! We can anchor our lives to the one unchanging reality - Jesus Christ our Lord!

See you Worship!
