At last, June! A new and long awaited season begins– summer. Maybe like me, you are ready for a change of season and especially weather. And this might be even more desired because of our wet and cold spring. I know the Northwest adage is that we wait until after July 4th for summer actually to arrive. But allow this California-born fellow to say, “Come quickly O’ summer and tarry here for a long while”.
This beginning to the summer season marks yet another series of changes: ending of the school year; grilling more BBQ ; finalizing summer travel plans; starting summer jobs and projects; wearing summer outfits (short pants and sandals, how sweet!); enjoying those delicious summer vegetables and fruits and all those favorite northwest summer time activities. I’m looking forward to late afternoon or early evening times to tee it up, to do some needed house/yard projects, to celebrate the graduation of my daughter-in-law, Grace from Seattle Pacific University, to have Adam home for the summer, to grill some burgers or chicken on the grill, to watch some of our marvelous summer sunsets from our deck, to take in a Mariner game or two, and to savor lots of warm and sunny days with Lynell, family and you.
At Marcus Whitman, June marks some significant changes
On Sunday, June 22nd, we move to our Summer Worship Schedule (please see information in the newsletter and/or our church’s website).
We say thanks and goodbye to both Kathryn Radabaugh and Ed Newell as Sunday Worship leaders. Both have been very faithful and appreciated for sharing their gifts, love and time with us and for Christ each Sunday morning. There has been this fellow in our fellowship and community since he was a new-born, toddler, child, youth and now this 6 foot, blond-haired, blue eye, great smiling, and brand new college freshman – you guessed it, I’m speaking about Murphy Campbell. Later this summer Murphy moves to California and begins his college life at Santa Clara University. We will miss Murphy but look forward to hearing about college life and all those soccer goals scored.
On June 22nd we will be electing and welcoming new church leaders – Deacons and Elders, as we say thanks to those who have faithfully and graciously led our congregation the past three or six years. Elders Steven Kennedy and Helen Seal and Deacons Gerri Goheen and Billie Kelley have served us well.
June marks a new month, a new season and life changes. May your journey, my journey, our journey into this new season find God’s good will, gracious blessing and his radiant joy in our days and our lives. May the days of summer give you and me new opportunities to share the good news of Jesus into our communities and the world.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 |
